PES 2004
GAME DESCRIPTION
You are playing as England, the camera pans down the line-up, it lingers on Wayne Rooney and for a split second you think you are playing the latest Shrek game — that’s how realistic the graphics are on this superior football game. Quite how Konami manages to improve Pro Evolution Soccer year on year is astonishing. The intuitive control system and fluidity of the movement are of the highest standard and this year’s model includes a bag of new dribbling tricks, which are worth practising in the training mode. Even the referees have received an upgrade. Now they allow advantage to be played at certain points, and often penalise completely fair tackles with a yellow card, just like their real-life counterparts.
To be fickle, Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is a bit obsessed with formations and statistics — most teams play a variation of the 4-4-2 system, how the programmers came up with the mind-boggling list of alternatives, I’ll never know. But this is a minor quibble. With a PC and Xbox version due out in November, this really is evolution at its highest level.
that time of the year again; yes work comes to a grinding halt, even those who donâ??t have a passion for football crowd round the TV screen and attempt to wrangle a pad â?“the latest title in the hugely popular Pro Evolution Soccer series has well and truly arrived.
Billed as the greatest addition yet to the series, Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is quite frankly a masterpiece; we can say it relatively early on in the review, as there are literally no complaints that can be levelled at the game.
Having struck gold with Pro Evo 2, subsequent versions have all been a refinement of the formula, little enhancements that help to improve the fast and fluid nature of the game. In this respect Pro Evo 4 certainly doesnâ??t disappoint; slight improvements to the long-passing and crossing system, result in a game that feels even closer to the real thing.
Once again the control system has come under a tighter refinement, with the natural selection of pass, shots, tricks and tackles. PES4 utilises the single shoulder button to run system introduced in PES3 instead of the two button system pioneered in PES2, whilst the other is used to carry out special manoeuvres such as trapping the ball under close control, a variety of shimmyâ??s and flicking it on in order to make a run. As with previous titles so much satisfaction comes from the delights of caressing these two buttons and pulling off the myriad of moves available, with enough skill and perseverance youâ??ll soon be receiving balls with your back to the goal, collecting it with the R2 button and making a quick turn through the legs of your opponent.
The long ball game has also been vastly improved with much greater scope for the player to zip in 30yd balls exactly where you want. Crosses have benefited massively from this, as players can now zip in those curling crosses just in front of the defence that keepers hate, whilst you can also make use of cut-back passes â?“ although these occasionally create some unexpected results.
Particularly the running game has been improved by leaps and bounds; whereas it was all but impossible for dribbling experts such as Giggs and Owen to make defence-splitting runs in previous games, PES4 gives you a lot more control over your character, and makes it easier to change direction on the fly, alter the tempo of your running and throw off chasing defenders. Itâ??s not to the point where the game becomes a run-fest like previous FIFA titles, but it certainly helps to ramp up the excitement generated in the game, particularly when you do so with a bit of skill instead of blind luck. Certainly the wide range of moves available through combinations of the R1 and R2 buttons along with the analogue stick, allow you to draw the ball back under your control when you know youâ??ve taken it one step too far, along with favourites such as the 360 spin and shimmy.
Arguably the most significant improvement comes in the form of the AI, which quite frankly creates the most accomplished football experience that weâ??ve yet had from a videogame. Players make intelligent runs and narrow down attacks; tied into this is the enhanced through-ball technique, which can now be used with far more accuracy and effect then previous titles. Often youâ??ll notice clever players such as Rooney making runs in between the defence, setting up a perfect opportunity for a defence splitting through-ball.
Naturally the developers have increased the already impressive animations of the game, and as such not only does the game flow even more beautifully then before, but also increases the range of moves available to the player, most notably in the shape of volleys. Again the ball physics aptly demonstrate how a football game should be created, and as is the case with most of the aspects of PES4, this has once again been improved upon previous versions. The ball appears to bounce around a lot more and requires players to take stronger control of it; however the sheer brilliance of the control system ensures that youâ??re always able to make something of it â?“ such players as Beckham can whip in volleyed crosses with a deft touch and absolute precision.
Itâ??s definitely the finer touches that Konami have worked on; hardcore PES fanatics will notice such details as players having a tighter control of the ball, so that players canâ??t just run towards them with X and make an easy challenge all the time. Particularly if players do try this the game has given more scope for players to make turns away from the challenge and make a speedy run up the pitch. Itâ??s these points, which may not sound like a great deal, that help to create an authentic, yet at the same time, delightfully enjoyable game of football â?“ it simply doesnâ??t get any better.
Finally fans will be glad to know that PES4 marks the first time that a referee is constantly on the pitch, and whether or not itâ??s his presence on the pitch, but thankfully the advantage system introduced to PES3 now actually works. Throughout games youâ??ll notice the referee playing the advantage when itâ??s needed, and pulling play back if the opposition gains control of the ball. Although youâ??ll get the odd occasional dubious decision, much like in real-life, the refereeâ??s decisions no longer frustrate the experience, theyâ??re pretty much spot on throughout the game.
Away from the improvements made on the pitch, Konami have once again gone to town with the Master League mode. Not only are there a greater variety of leagues on offer, but you can also train your players during practise matches to bring up their match fitness. The transfer system works on a similar basis as before, whilst itâ??s possible to start the Master League with actual players from the club as opposed to a bunch of nobodyâ??s.
One constant bugbear of the series that still remains is the ever-important issue of licenses; despite offering an increase of official leagues and clubs, English fans will still find themselves playing with teams such as â??Man Redâ?? or â??Mersey Bluesâ??. Fans of Italian, Spanish or Dutch teams will be pleased to know however that Konami have snagged the rights for such leagues, with teams featuring the correct players and more importantly the smaller details such as authentic team strips and badges.
Arguably more important is the fact that PES4 misses out on all the summer transfers, so youâ??ll have to be using the handy player editor to ensure the likes of Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba are at their respective clubs, whilst the England squad benefits from the services of Paul Scholes. Itâ??s certainly an improvement compared to previous versions, however thereâ??s still some way to go in this aspect if Konami want to equal the gloss of the FIFA titles.
Fans of the PES Shop introduced in PES3 will be happy to know that the feature has returned with even more significance. PES points are granted throughout the various modes for such criteria as winning games or scoring a certain amount of gaols, which in turn can be used to unlock a huge variety of goodies, including replay effects and new stadiums.
Visually the game is once again a mixture of the good and the bad. Player models on the whole capture the look of real-life players well, although there are one or two which look slightly odd. The animation is up to the usual top-notch standard that we expect from the Pro Evo series, however stadiums and just the general look of the pitch and other objects is beginning to look a little outdated, particular in comparison to the visual delights of FIFA 2005.
Peter Brackley and Trevor â??I havenâ??t got a clueâ?? Brooking return to provide match commentary, and as with every other aspect, itâ??s an improvement upon previous versions but itâ??s likely youâ??ll still reach for the mute button after a short time. Particularly American sports titles have shown us how good commentary can be in videogames, and we just hope that one day Pro Evolution Soccer can offer the same.
With the series famed for its intuitive controls and the realistic movement of players on and around the ball, Konami TYO has further pushed the envelope with a wealth of new moves and tricks that flow fluidly within the fast-paced action. New free kick and penalty techniques can now be used, while an innovative indirect free kick move has been implemented to add further variety to set pieces. This level of realism has also been extended to the game's many players. More individuality can now be found in the ways players run, move both on and off the ball, and how they control the ball. Likewise, even more advanced player stats that govern every aspect of their play affect how well players can bring a high or fast ball under control, hit it first time past an encroaching defender, or flick the ball on to a team-mate. A new dribbling system is also available giving more control as players go one-on-one and try to pass opposing players, while crosses and cut-back passes can now be made with more precision. In keeping with this level of detail, player likenesses are also enhanced to match the noticeable individuality of the world's greatest stars. Pro Evolution Soccer 4 will also boast an on-screen referee for the first time. A new 'My Best Eleven' option allows fans to save their greatest teams for prosperity, and players can now be forced to retire through severe injury during the course of a Master League season, forcing the user to work around the loss of key stars and restructure around the abilities of suitable replacement players. GAME DESCRIPTION
Pro Evolution Soccer 5 has long been regarded as the videogamers football game, with more emphasis on gameplay and challenge than its rival FIFA. Here on Thunderbolt we’ve been constantly excited at this time of year as the new version nears completion, and nevertheless many lunch breaks were filled, deadlines over-run, controllers broken and swear words invented as the entire team (minus our Editor Phil, currently plotting world domination in his secret base-come-uninhabited volcanic island in New Zealand) gathered around at every available opportunity to march England onto World Cup glory. With both Gerrard andLampard in the same side.
There’s Rooney, about to go mental on that Italian fella.
Did we like PES5? More than that. Love? Even more; at one point we assigned a chair for the case to merely sit on and began making cups of the Thunderbolt brew for the disc to sup as we played away- Jim even let it review Far Cry’s Xbox outing as we got into arguments about 4-4-2’s and 4-3-3’s. Loved it? We lived it. It’s part of the team now, and is currently publishing news articles.
As has always been a key element in the PES series, possession proves to be the key, and this year things are no different. The opposition seem to exploit holes in the defence far more and will rarely give you time or space to dilly dally about; depending on their mentality, the computer will either hunt you down in packs of two or three players to try and pressure you off the ball, which is frightenly exciting to watch, or the midfield will drop deep and the defence push up to plug any gaps for your creative players to exploit. Should you lose the ball, you can expect a barrage as they run up the pitch on a counter attack, with wingers running full backs ragged and flair-ridden midfield players floating about trying not to be noticed.
That ugly, long haired, Brazilian git is Ronaldhino. I hate him.
Luckily, Konami seem to have gotten rid of the horrible end of game bug, in which if the ball was outside of the goal area when injury time was nearing to an end, the whistle would go off. Far more realistically, the ball now has to be in a non-attacking motion before play is ended, so if you’re attacking then you can afford to keep possession at the end of the box without fear of the whistle blowing just as you set off to take a final shot. The same can be said for running down the wings; before, a defence-splitting pass would be chased down, and just as you get to it the whistle would go, with your striker in the box unmarked. Now, you can get to the ball and cross it and still have the chance on goal. Again, the flip-side of this is agonising when defending, as you really have to hoof the ball out of the danger area to get the whistle to go, which adds an extra spice to the mix as you’re tested to the absolute limit as to whether you can keep your cool right up until the final whistle.
Off the pitch, there isn’t much new, however of what little additions there are make a huge difference to gameplay. There still isn’t a full license to cover the entire game* which means you’ll been spending a bit of time in the edit mode swapping players about and changing names. The most notable addition here is the potential growth meter, which changes how well players progress within the Master League.
Master League is the meat and bones of Pro Evolution Soccer, which allows you to take control of a club team and take them from the very depths of the football league and onto the highs. As you progress through the entire game you can unlock additional features to alter how many transfer points you start off with, to change the difficulty level to maximum and edit which teams enter which league. There’s also the option from the very start to either have the original team available or commence play with a bunch of misfits and lower-league drop outs. The former offers players to jump straight into management with their favourite team and build from there, with the latter offering far more of a challenge.
He’s getting a card for his shameless designer stuble.
When you start out, your little-known players will have dragged the clubs reputation through the dirt, and as such you won’t beable to attract the top talent during transfer windows. There’s not much overall skill, so attention has to be paid to individual preferences and you basically have to battle tooth and nail for results and try to drag the club up the league, achieve promotion and then start to build on European domination. As you keep playing the team starts to gel, which makes things slightly easier at best, and perhaps the key is to keep up fitness levels with the simplified training regimes. Winning games earns you more points, as do cup runs, and at the end of each season the teams wage bill is deducted from the overall amount, and having a negative balance means you get sacked and the game ends. To keep things fresh players develop skills and even deteriorate over time, so you get used to buying in promising youngsters as oldies retire and get regenerated. It’s a never ending process and ensures that even the top teams have to keep an eye out in the transfer market.
There are, of course, other modes of play such as domestic and international cups and leagues, the latter with optional cup matches, which offer the standard yet fun experience of playing without concern. And then we come to internet play.
It was always inevitable that football games would branch out online, and Konami seems to have learnt its lesson with the last Xbox outing. Now, both versions are internet ready, and lag issues have been vastly reduced by ensuring that both players each host a half each. Online rankings have been vastly streamlined; however it’s amazing that although Konami happily allow PESFan.com to set up leagues throughout the UK and generally look after the vast amounts of fans, I find it astounding that they don’t use their option files for use online. It’s incredibly annoying to go from your game on your memory card with correct kits, rosters and team names to the online community where everything is default and out of date. This detracts from the experience somewhat, and whilst most will argue that PES is about gameplay, I’m starting to get annoyed with the same old excuses. That said, games are extremely fascinating to participate in.
Without going further to spoil surprises, PES5 is as realistic to the beautiful game as the series has ever been, with the new gameplay tweaks keeping things fresh for fans and adding challenging elements to tackle and master. It’s a pain to have to almost see it as compulsory to splash out on Datel’s Max Drive* to get the best out of the game, but what with the limited capacity of Sony’s memory cards and the need to beable to backup important data it does seem that most PS2 and Xbox owners now own the device.
Despite the licensing issues, Pro Evolution Soccer 5 is once again the absolute pinnacle in the series, something we couldn’t changing. Some will moan that the new tweaks make the game too hard, but in all honesty each new addition in the history of PES has required players to take the game from a new angle and aspect, going back to basics in an attempt to master the new game engine. As with all games across all platforms, here at Thunderbolt Games we invite readers to our forums to converse on tactics, tricks and tips, and now is no different.
Fans of the series will be pleasantly surprised at how Konami has managed to keep PES on the same rails yet freshen things up, with new gamers finding a challenging yet rewarding experience. And with Konami themselves saying that they believe that can improve the game ten-fold on the next generation of systems, the present and immediate future looks very bright indeed.
Perhaps the improvement that will interest PC owners the most, though, is the full and proper integration of online gaming. Those who played the last generation of PES will be oh-so-familiar with the cumbersome, unfriendly, unstructured and unhelpful online options, that were seemingly tacked on as an afterthought. No such worries here. This is pretty much what we originally wanted, and can easily see ourselves losing many months to, er, conquering the world. Cough.
Any problems? Well, nothing major. The unofficial team names and at-times bizarre commentary are becoming more part of Pro Evolution Soccer folklore than an explicit reason to chastise the game. That said, it really would be nice to take the official materials away from FIFA and marry them up to a PES engine.
But it's hard to suggest fundamental improvements to a series that clearly knows its game, and is confident enough to take a few risks with it. It's an evolution rather than a revolution, certainly. But this time, it's a sizeable progression, and one that comes very strongly recommended. The best action football game on the planet? It is. Until next year...
It's that time of year again when updates of our favourite football games are released. Here we have Pro Evolution Soccer 5 which improves upon quite a lot so I'll cut out the small talk and get straight on with it. What does Pro Evolution Soccer 4 have to offer then? Well quite a lot actually. Game modes include Match mode where you can play a single game or penalty shootout and League Mode which allows you to take part in either a national league with club teams (you can choose from England, France, Germany, Serie A, Eredivisie or Liga Espanola) or an International league with a country of your choice. Cup Mode allows you to take part in an International or national cup competition and although no official cup competition names have been included it does allow you to simulate a few official competitions such as the World Cup or European Championships. There is also a Training mode, an Edit mode and of course the Master League mode (more on that in a moment). Every aspect of the game has been improved. Quite a few official teams have been included, the Master League mode has been reworked, player animations have been improved and now you'll notice the addition of first touch moves that really make things interesting. A referee can now be seen onscreen at all times and this time the referee decisions are far more accurate. To sum up then amazingly Konami have worked hard to improve the game since the release of the highly acclaimed Pro Evolution Soccer 3.
One of the key features of the Pro Evolution Soccer series is the Master League mode. In the previous versions you picked a team to play as but no matter who you picked you didn't have the team's real players and instead acquired a team that consisted of poor, mediocre and mildly talented players. The teams you played against though would have their correct players which meant you were up against it. The idea was that you had to slowly build up your team by purchasing promising players and taking them all the way to the top division and win the championship. In Pro Evolution Soccer 4 you can elect to start with the usual mixed bag of players (known as Master League Default players) or you can choose to start with Match Mode players which means you can pick a team and start with their true players. Finally you can create your own team. You get to create your team kits, logos and choose their ground. You'll begin with the original master league players but before the season starts you'll have the opportunity to exchange three of your players for any other players in the game.
Money has become a top priority in football and it's exactly the same in the Master League mode. You'll begin with a certain amount of money (how much depends on whether or not you've chosen to play with the Master League default players or the Match Mode players). Essentially you'll have your starting amount of money and notification of how much money will be taken to pay your expenses on week 44 of the season. Should week 44 roll around and you do not have enough money to pay your expenses (or if you don't have 16 players in your squad), it's game over. To earn money you need to get results on the pitch. Winning a match will earn you 800 points (points being the currency) whereas drawing will earn you 400 points and you'll earn no points for a defeat. You'll also get bonus points for goals scored and progression in the cup competitions you're involved in. You may also get a bonus for your final league placing.
The Master League mode also has one other major addition this time around. It's now possible for your players to acquire experience throughout their career and their attributes can increase as a result of their performance. This is an inclusion that longstanding fans of the series will no doubt be thrilled with. Don't think that it's possible to turn average players into superstars though as each player has a predetermined potential rating that can be achieved so an increase in their ability won't exceed their limitations. It's also worth mentioning that a player's abilities will also decline so as your long serving players come to the twilight of their careers you'll have to consider replacing them or be left with a player who just can't cut the mustard any more.
The PES Shop that was in Pro Evolution Soccer 3 can once again be found in Pro Evolution Soccer 4. For every match played you earn 50 PES points and with these points you can purchase a number of unlockables from the PES Shop (found in the options). Veterans of the series will be pleased to learn that a level 6 difficulty level (far too difficult for me) can be unlocked for 1500 points. Extra stadiums, players, a double match speed option, a couple of extra camera angles, a new ball and player editing features can all be unlocked too. For 10,000 points you can even purchase the right to edit the amount of points that you begin the Master League mode with and whilst this may seem like you're cheating I think after playing the required 200 matches to accumulate the required points I think you deserve a substantial reward.
As with all other sports titles the commentary is not subtitled but this doesn't mean Pro Evolution Soccer causes deaf gamers any problems. All information in the game is shown exclusively in text. All the training exercises are shown in text as are all the details and information in the Master League mode. In Pro Evolution Soccer 3, during a game, an icon appeared to show when the referee had played the advantage rule. This time around many more icons have been used to signify offside and direct and indirect free kicks. This is an excellent idea and provides deaf gamers with more feedback than they have ever had infootball game to date.
Well after that rather lengthy description of what the game contains all that remains is to comment on how the game plays. In a word it's sensational! Yes even taking into account the few problems that exist this is, by a long way, the best football game ever created. OK in terms of presentation it could be better but once a match kicks off you'll be very impressed by almost every single aspect of how the game plays. Whilst it's not 100% realistic it's not that far off and Konami have an enormous task in front of them if Pro Evolution Soccer 5 is to be better than this but I'm sure they will, once again, rise to the challenge and impress us all with the result. Pro Evolution Soccer 4 will also arrive on the PC and for the first time, the Xbox (which rather excitingly also features online play). Personally I can't wait to see the game on both of these technically superior formats because once again on the PlayStation 2 a footballing sensation has been created.

Critically acclaimed, multi-million selling and still the most respected football title on the planet, Pro Evolution Soccer continues to be one of Konami’s flagship titles. The indications are that this latest incarnation will surpass everything that went before it and prove that PES 2008 will be the greatest version of the beautiful game to date.
Two new cover stars will grace the packshot with multiple player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo and England star Michael Owen endorsing the quality of PES 2008 by deciding to use their considerable talents alongside that of the game. As well as the outside having a new look, fans will be eager to know what new changes can be found inside the most important area of PES 2008 – the gameplay.
PES 2008 will feature a brand new intelligence system, called Teamvision, that adapts and reacts to players own gameplay styles to ensure that the computer controlled opponents are always challenging and forcing the player to think and chance their style of play to avoid being out-thought by the game. It will learn counter attacks that target your weaknesses and look to exploit any repetitive tactics players use.
Defenders react better to danger, closing down the ball and charging at shots and the goalkeepers will hold shots that are closer to them as well. Teammates will make more intelligent runs into space and the close control has been sharpened to ensure quick and fluid passing and speedy attacks can be built. The next gen versions will also feature extensive edit modes so players can completely customise their PES 2008 experience.

Pes 2009 iso + full rip
1.42 GIGA BYTE
extract files
KEEP BROKEN FILES

PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2009
GAME DESCRIPTION
against a friend - where a shot slowly rebounded off the post, onto the keeper's shoulder and into the net, had us crying tears of laughter
None of these criticisms will surprise PES fans. This is the way PES has played for a good few years now, and this is the way it plays once again. We've forgiven PES these deficiencies in the past because, well, FIFA was no alternative. But now it is. In fact it's better. It's impossible to ignore. PES doesn't play a real game of football any more, as it once proudly proclaimed from the terraces. It plays something else, something different.
The game plays similarly to last year's disappointing effortAdmittedly there are some areas where Konami is clearly trying. The Be A Legend mode is at first glance a complete rip off of FIFA's Be A Pro mode, but those in the know will be aware that it's actually the Western implementation of Winning Eleven's Fantasista mode, a feature that's been running for longer than FIFA's alternative. Here, you create a 17-year-old player (you can scan in your face via Web Cam if you fancy it) and bid to become captain of your country. You start out, however, playing for the wonderfully named Babilayna CF versus Athletic Club Salsabie, but you're being watched by a number of scouts from top clubs. After the game you're offered a contract at a top club (no matter how bad your performance you're picked up). We were offered terms with three clubs, but Man City (sans Robinho of course, this is PES after all) seemed like the best bet. From there, you need to impress during training matches to make the bench, and then make an impression when brought on as a substitute. It's an interesting mode to mess about with, and we have to admit that it's something that we can see a lot of players pumping many hours into, especially if they're bored of the now tired Master League, which once again makes an appearance without any significant changes. That you can take your created Legend online is an added bonus. But, ultimately, we can't see the mode replacing the traditional one on one PES match.
The addition of the Champions League license sounds a lot better than it actually is. You'd think that Konami's securing of the best club competition in world football would mean PES 2009 would have the official license for all of this year's participating teams, but it doesn't. Only a select number of clubs are officially licensed, once again. Disappointingly Liverpool FC and Manchester United FC are the only officially licensed Premier League teams on offer. The illusion that you're playing a real Champions League game is shattered somewhat when Manchester United are going up against London FC. Yes there's now a full edit mode, which means that those of you with the time and inclination can right all those transfer wrongs (of which there are many - Shevchenko is still at Chelsea and Berbatov is still at Spurs, for example), and correct all the club names, but really it's a pain in the arse we shouldn't have to suffer. The saving grace for the PC version is the ease at which players will be able to download unofficial team and player conversion mods transforming non-licensed teams into something closely resembling the real thing.
Online play works, which is great, and there's still a great feeling when you score a cracker. And yet, despite all of the problems, there's still fun to be had from PES 2009. It's incredibly hard to nail down exactly why this is, but it's there nonetheless. Perhaps it's due to the fact that the pace of the game has been slowed ever so slightly, and that keepers are actually a lot better than in previous versions. Whatever the reason, a screamer from 25 yards is as magic as it always was. It'll still get you up off your seat and screaming your heart out. This just about saves the game from filling our hearts with bitter disappointment. That and the fact that online play actually works, which is absolutely great. PES might be feature light in comparison to FIFA's packed offering, but it still offers a fun game of virtual football. And, inevitably, some people will always prefer PES' gameplay, which is fair enough.
Still, we can't help but feel that there's going to be thousands of PES fans who embrace the power of the dark side this year, on account of the fact that it simply doesn't feel like Konami is putting much effort into the so-called 'next-gen' versions of PES these days - and that includes PC. You might even say the PS2 is the lead platform, when you compare the strides forward between Konami and EA's efforts. PES 2009 is a good game, but the times they are changin', and we're afraid that Konami is being left behind. Time for a reboot, Seabas

GAME DESCRIPTION
